Introduction

Award customers a one-time points bonus when they subscribe to your SMS marketing. Points are awarded automatically when Shopify records their SMS consent.

SMS has high open rates, but customers are cautious about sharing their number. A points reward makes the opt-in feel worth it.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see Install Yuko on Shopify.
The Yuko Theme App Embed is enabled in your active theme — see Theme App Embed.
Your loyalty program is enabled under Loyalty Program Status at Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs.
Your point labels are set in Loyalty Settings.

Setup guide

Add the way to earn

In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs. In Ways to earn, click Add another way and pick Subscribe to SMS.

Fill in Basic Details

  • Campaign Name — shown to customers on the storefront. You can use [earn_value] and [points_label], for example Earn [earn_value] [points_label].
  • Description — short copy shown with the way to earn.

Set the points

Enter Points to earn for SMS subscription (a whole number, at least 1).

Set Expiry (optional)

Turn on Expiry, then set Expire after and a Period (Day, Week, Month or Year). Expiry is available on select plans.

Review the side panel

  • Status — on by default.
  • Icon — Default, or Custom to upload your own (JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, under 1 MB).
  • Tiers — turn on to apply VIP tier multipliers to this way to earn.

Save

Click Save.

How it works

  • Shopify notifies Yuko when a customer’s SMS marketing consent changes.
  • If the customer is now subscribed, Yuko awards the points.
  • It doesn’t matter where the customer subscribed (for example your storefront, checkout, or an app that updates consent in Shopify), as long as Shopify records the consent.
  • Each customer earns once. Unsubscribing doesn’t remove the points, and subscribing again doesn’t earn more.
With Tiers on and VIP tiers enabled, customers in a tier earn the tier’s multiplier for this way to earn, plus any bonus points the tier sets for it. The extra points appear as a separate tier bonus entry.

Decision guidance

  • Calibrate the bonus so it doesn’t outweigh your other one-time ways to earn.
  • Tell customers about the reward wherever you ask them to subscribe.

Limitations

  • Shopify stores only. It doesn’t appear on other platforms.
  • Customers who were already subscribed before you enabled it don’t earn for past consent.
  • One reward per customer.
  • You can have one Subscribe to SMS way to earn.

  • 50 points for subscribing to SMS, promoted at checkout next to the SMS consent box.

Best practices

Offer more than for email. Customers value their phone number more, so a slightly bigger reward helps.

FAQs

The points stay. They aren’t reversed.
Not for consent given before you enabled it. Only new consent updates recorded by Shopify trigger the reward.
