Introduction

Reward customers with loyalty points whenever they complete a paid order. This is the highest-impact campaign in any loyalty program: it ties earning directly to revenue and is the foundation for repeat purchases.

What problem this solves

Customers who buy once often don’t return. By visibly rewarding every order, you give shoppers a reason to come back to your store instead of a competitor’s. The points balance becomes a switching cost.

When to use

  • You want every paying customer enrolled in earning, not just high-spenders.
  • You’re optimising for repeat-purchase rate or customer lifetime value.
  • You want a points economy where redemption rewards feel attainable.
  • You want to apply a VIP multiplier on top of base earning.

Overview

  • Award fixed points per order or value-based points (e.g., 1 point per $1 spent).
  • Optional delay before crediting (e.g., wait 7 days to skip refunds).
  • Optional expiry on awarded points.
  • Exclude specific products, collections or customers.
  • Stacks with VIP multipliers automatically.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see Install Yuko on Shopify.
The Yuko Theme App Embed is enabled in your active theme.
Your loyalty program is enabled at Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Settings.
Points label and currency are configured.

Setup guide

1

Open the campaign

Login to your Shopify admin, then go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Ways to Earn → Place an Order.
2

Configure basic details

  • Campaign name — internal label (e.g., “Order earn — 1 pt per $1”).
  • Description — short note for your team.
3

Choose how points are earned

Pick a Points Earning Method:
Award the same amount on every order. Best for stores with consistent basket sizes or to keep the math simple.
Award points proportional to order value (e.g., 1 pt per $1). Best when you want bigger orders to earn proportionally more.
4

Set the points value

Enter the points amount or ratio.
5

Configure additional settings (optional)

  • Delay — hold the credit for N days to absorb refunds.
  • Expiry — have points expire after a fixed window.
  • Exclusions — skip specific products, collections or tagged customers.
6

Save & activate

Toggle the campaign Active and click Save.

How it works

  1. A customer completes a Shopify order.
  2. Yuko receives the orders/paid (or equivalent) webhook from Shopify.
  3. The order is checked against active exclusions and the customer’s eligibility.
  4. Points are calculated using your chosen method, multiplied by any active VIP tier multiplier.
  5. If a delay is set, the credit is queued; otherwise it lands on the customer’s balance immediately.
  6. The transaction appears in the customer’s activity feed.

Decision guidance

  • Use fixed points when basket size doesn’t vary much, or for early-stage programs where simplicity wins.
  • Use points-per-spend when you sell high-ticket items or want the program to scale with revenue.
  • Add a 7–14 day delay if your refund window is meaningful — it avoids clawing back points after the fact.
  • Set expiry (12–24 months) only if your goal is to push redemption; otherwise leave points perpetual.

Limitations

  • Points are awarded once per order; partial fulfilments don’t create extra credits.
  • Refunded orders trigger a points reversal automatically when processed within Shopify.
  • The VIP tier multiplier is applied at the moment of award — not retroactively if a customer changes tier later.

Examples

  • Fashion store: 1 point per $1, 14-day delay → simple, refund-safe.
  • Subscription brand: 50 points fixed per order regardless of value → predictable economy.
  • High-AOV electronics: 2 points per $1 with 30-day delay → encourages bigger baskets.

Best practices

Keep the math obvious. “1 point = $0.01 off” is faster to grasp than “100 points = 5% off your next order”.
Default the delay on. A 7-day delay is invisible to most customers but saves you from refund-driven negative balances.
Don’t exclude every sale collection. Wide exclusions train customers to ignore the program. Reserve exclusions for promo-only SKUs.

FAQs

No. Points are only awarded once Shopify marks the order as paid.
Yuko reverses the awarded points automatically. If a partial refund is issued, the corresponding portion of points is removed.
Yes — set exclusions by product, collection, or customer tag in the campaign’s additional settings.
The VIP tier multiplier is applied on top of your base points value at the moment of award.
Loyalty requires a customer record. Configure guest checkouts to auto-create accounts in Loyalty Settings → Customer eligibility.
