Introduction

Yuko’s Checkout UI Extension surfaces points earning and redemption options inside Shopify Checkout. It’s the same widget surface customers see in cart, but rendered natively in Checkout where Shopify forbids custom scripts.

What problem this solves

Shopify Checkout is locked down: no scripts, no theme code. Without the Checkout UI Extension, customers would lose visibility of points and rewards at the most critical moment of the funnel.

Where it appears

  • The Checkout pages in Shopify (information, shipping, payment).
  • Used by both the Checkout Earn Widget and the Checkout Redeem Widget.

When to use

  • You’re on Shopify Plus or a plan with Checkout Extensibility.
  • You want loyalty visible at checkout, not just in cart.

Overview

  • Shopify-native extension surface.
  • Configured in Shopify’s Checkout Editor.
  • Plan-gated by Shopify (typically Plus).
  • Independent of the Theme App Embed.

Before you start

Yuko is installed on your Shopify store.
You are on a Shopify plan that supports Checkout Extensibility.
You’ve migrated to Checkout Extensibility in Shopify (legacy checkout.liquid is not supported).

Setup guide

1

Open the Checkout Editor

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout → Customize.
2

Add the Yuko Checkout extension

In the editor, click Add app block in the section where you want the widget. Choose the relevant Yuko Checkout extension.
3

Position and save

Drag the block to its final position in the checkout and click Save.
Checkout UI extensions require Shopify Plus or a checkout-eligible plan. See Theme compatibility & requirements.

How it works

When a customer reaches Checkout, Shopify mounts the Yuko extension into the configured slot. The extension:
  • Fetches the active customer’s points balance and applicable rewards.
  • Displays points the customer will earn for this order.
  • Lets the customer apply an existing reward as a discount code.

Decision guidance

  • Place the Earn widget near the order summary for visibility.
  • Place the Redeem widget near the discount-code field so customers reach for points instead of an external coupon.

Limitations

  • Requires Checkout Extensibility — not available on legacy checkout.liquid deployments.
  • Cannot be customised beyond the configuration options Yuko exposes (Shopify constrains the surface).

Examples

  • A Plus brand puts Checkout Earn above the payment section, lifting checkout completion rate.
  • A subscription brand puts Checkout Redeem alongside the discount code field, doubling reward redemption rate at checkout.

Best practices

Test in a Shopify checkout preview before going live. Shopify caches checkout layouts aggressively.
Don’t duplicate widgets across cart and checkout unless you have a reason — it can cause customer confusion.

FAQs

Confirm Yuko is installed and your store has migrated to Checkout Extensibility. If it’s still missing, reinstall Yuko or contact support.
The Order Status page widget is a separate extension and works on more plans. See Order Status / Thank-you Earn Widget.
Loyalty requires a customer record. Guest checkouts can be configured to auto-create accounts in Loyalty Settings.
