Checkout Membership Upsell Widget

Introduction

The Checkout: Membership upsell widget shows your membership plan inside Shopify Checkout. It’s the Yuko Checkout Membership Upsell checkout UI extension block.

What problem this solves

If a customer didn’t add the membership in the cart, checkout is your last chance. The block lets them add the plan to the order in one click.

Where it appears

Shopify Checkout (purchase.checkout.block.render). By default it sits in the order summary; you can move it in the checkout editor.

Overview

Promotes the plan chosen in Membership → Plans → Membership Settings → Membership to upsell.
Text fields only. The block uses Shopify’s checkout styling.
Hidden from customers who already have a membership.
Requires Shopify Plus. On other Shopify plans, the widget card shows a Shopify Plus badge and can’t be turned on.

Before you start

Your store is on Shopify Plus.

A plan is selected in Membership to upsell.

Setup guide

Open the widget

Go to Membership → Widgets and click Customize on Checkout: Membership upsell.

Save and enable

Click Save, then switch the widget on with the toggle on its card in Membership → Widgets.

2. Add the block in the checkout editor

Open the Checkout Editor

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout and click Customize.

Add the Yuko app block

Click Add app block in the section where you want the widget and choose the Yuko block for this widget (for example Yuko Potential points earn or Yuko Redeem rewards).

Position and save

Drag the block to its final position in the checkout and click Save.

Checkout app blocks are only available on Shopify Plus. In Yuko, the Checkout Process widgets show “Available only on Shopify Plus plan” on other Shopify plans. See Theme compatibility & requirements.

Choose the Yuko Checkout Membership Upsell block.

3. Verify

Go through a test checkout as a customer without a membership. The block should show the plan and an Add button.

How it works

Shopify renders the block in checkout.
The block checks that memberships and the widget are on, and that the customer has no membership.
It shows the upsell plan with its price, billing interval, and a View benefits button that expands the plan’s benefits.
Add adds the plan’s product, with its subscription option, to the order. The button then shows the Added label.

Limitations

Requires Shopify Plus.
Promotes one plan: the Membership to upsell.
Visual styling follows Shopify’s checkout.

Best practices

Use it alongside the cart upsell as a second, lighter touchpoint.

Test in the checkout editor preview and in a real checkout. Shopify can cache checkout settings for a short time.

FAQs

My checkout doesn't show the block

Check that your store is on Shopify Plus, the widget is switched on in Yuko, the block is added in the checkout editor, and you’re testing as a customer without a membership.

What if the customer is already a member?

The block hides itself.
