Introduction

Let customers apply their points or earned rewards as a discount code natively inside Shopify Checkout, without bouncing back to cart.

What problem this solves

The biggest leak in any loyalty program is between “customer wants to redeem” and “discount code applied at checkout”. Bringing redemption into checkout shrinks that gap to a single click.

  • Shopify Checkout (information, shipping, payment pages), typically next to the discount code field.

When to use

  • You’re on Shopify Plus or a plan with Checkout Extensibility.
  • You want to lift redemption rate at the most decisive screen.
  • You want loyalty discounts to feel native, not bolt-on.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store.
Your loyalty program is enabled.
The widget is set to Active in Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Widgets.
Your active Shopify theme supports Online Store 2.0 app blocks.
Your Shopify plan supports Checkout Extensibility.
The Checkout UI extension has been activated — see Activate the Checkout UI Extension.
You have at least one Way to Redeem configured.

Setup guide

1. Configure in Yuko

Open the widget settings

Go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Widgets → Checkout Redeem.

Configure the heading

e.g., “Use your [points_label]” or “You have rewards available”.

Configure the apply CTA

e.g., “Apply” or “Use this reward”.

Activate

Toggle the widget Active.

2. Add the widget in Shopify Checkout

Open the Checkout Editor

In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Checkout → Customize.

Add the Yuko Checkout extension

In the editor, click Add app block in the section where you want the widget. Choose the relevant Yuko Checkout extension.

Position and save

Drag the block to its final position in the checkout and click Save.
Checkout UI extensions require Shopify Plus or a checkout-eligible plan. See Theme compatibility & requirements.
Place the widget near the discount code field for maximum redemption.

3. Verify

Log in as a customer with rewards, proceed to checkout and confirm the rewards list renders. Apply a reward and verify the discount adjusts the order total.

How it works

  1. Shopify renders the Yuko Checkout Redeem extension at checkout.
  2. The extension fetches the customer’s available rewards.
  3. The customer clicks Apply on a reward.
  4. The corresponding Shopify discount code is applied to the order.

Decision guidance

  • Place near the discount code field so customers find it where they expect to.
  • Show only the highest-value reward if the list gets crowded — customers struggle with too many options here.

Limitations

  • Requires Checkout Extensibility (Shopify Plus / eligible plans).
  • Visual customisation is constrained by Shopify’s extension surface.
  • Stacking with other discounts is gated by Shopify’s combinability rules.

  • “You have rewards available” with two rewards listed and one-click apply.

Best practices

Don’t hide the cart redeem widget when checkout redeem is enabled. They serve different stages of intent; both lift redemption together.
Order rewards by value descending. Customers click the first one that fits.

FAQs

The widget hides itself for that customer.
Only if Shopify combinability rules allow it. By default, one discount code per order.
Auto-apply behaviour depends on the type of reward and Shopify’s discount engine. Some reward types require manual apply.
