Introduction

Convert points into store credit — a wallet balance the customer can apply to any future order. The most flexible reward type and the closest to “cash on file” in the program.

What problem this solves

Discount codes feel transactional. Store credit feels like money on account, which behaves more like cash and increases perceived value of the program.

When to use

  • You want a flexible reward customers can apply to anything.
  • You want to encourage repeat shopping by giving customers a balance.
  • You’re brand-conscious and want loyalty to feel premium rather than discount-driven.

Overview

  • Converts points into store credit at a defined ratio (e.g., 100 pts = $1 credit).
  • Customer can use the credit on any qualifying order.
  • Optional credit expiry.
  • Uses Shopify’s native store credit if enabled, otherwise issues an internal balance redeemable via discount code.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see Install Yuko on Shopify.
The Yuko Theme App Embed is enabled in your active theme.
Your loyalty program is enabled at Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Settings.
Points label and currency are configured.
Decide whether to use Shopify’s native store credit (if available on your plan) or Yuko’s internal balance.

Setup guide

1

Open the reward

Login to your Shopify admin, then go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Ways to Redeem → Store Credit.
2

Configure basic details

Set reward name and description.
3

Set points and credit ratio

Enter the points cost and the credit amount (e.g., 100 pts = $1).
4

Set expiry (optional)

Configure how long the issued credit stays valid.
5

Save & activate

Toggle Active and click Save.

How it works

  1. Customer redeems points for store credit.
  2. The credit is added to the customer’s wallet.
  3. On the next qualifying order, the credit is applied at checkout.
  4. Yuko logs both the redemption and the application as separate transactions.

Decision guidance

  • Use a clean ratio100 pts = $1 is most readable.
  • Pick Shopify-native store credit if available; it integrates more cleanly with refunds and Shopify reporting.
  • Don’t run alongside Amount Discount with the same effective rate — it confuses customers.

Limitations

  • Shopify-native store credit availability depends on your plan.
  • Credits can’t be refunded as cash; they remain a store balance.

Examples

  • Premium beauty brand: 200 pts = $2 store credit, 12-month expiry, the only redemption type offered.
  • Subscription brand: 500 pts = $5 store credit, applied automatically on next renewal.

Best practices

Choose store credit over discount codes if you want loyalty to feel premium.
Communicate the balance prominently — in the Cart Redeem widget and Customer Account hub.
Don’t change the conversion ratio after launch. Customers anchor to it.

FAQs

Yes — store credit applies as a payment method, so it stacks with discount codes by default.
Refund handling depends on whether you’re using Shopify-native credit or Yuko’s internal balance. See the customer profile activity feed.
