Introduction

Let customers spend points to remove shipping cost from their order. Particularly impactful in regions where shipping is a known cart-abandonment driver.

What problem this solves

Many customers abandon checkout when they see shipping. A points-funded free-shipping reward turns the loyalty program into a direct unblock for the most common reason carts go cold.

When to use

  • You operate in markets where shipping cost is high relative to AOV.
  • You see a meaningful drop-off between cart and checkout.
  • You want a “value” reward that’s easy to communicate.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see Install Yuko on Shopify.
The Yuko Theme App Embed is enabled in your active theme.
Your loyalty program is enabled at Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Settings.
Points label and currency are configured.

Setup guide

Open the reward

Login to your Shopify admin, then go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Ways to Redeem → Free Shipping.

Configure basic details

Set reward name and description.

Set points required

Enter the points cost.

Configure additional settings

  • Minimum purchase amount.
  • Combinability.
  • Expiry.

Save & activate

Toggle Active and click Save.

How it works

  1. Customer redeems the reward.
  2. Yuko issues a Shopify free-shipping discount code.
  3. The code removes shipping cost on the next eligible order.

Decision guidance

  • Pair with a minimum cart to avoid shipping a $5 product for free.
  • Run as a default reward in shipping-cost-heavy regions — it’s the most-redeemed reward in many EU/AU stores.

Limitations

  • Doesn’t apply to express upgrades unless explicitly configured at the Shopify shipping level.
  • Customer must select a paid shipping method for the discount to remove the cost.

Examples

  • EU brand: 300 pts = free standard shipping, min cart $40, 30-day expiry.
  • US apparel: 500 pts = free shipping, no minimum, combinable with sales.

Test on every shipping zone before launch. Shipping rules vary by region.
Consider this a high-redemption reward when planning your points economy.

FAQs

By default yes; you can restrict to specific shipping rates in Shopify if needed.
The reward issues but doesn’t reduce the bill further. The points are still consumed unless you set a minimum-cart guard.
