Introduction

Let customers spend points on a fixed-amount discount (for example, 500 points = $5 off). It’s the simplest, most predictable reward type and usually the one customers expect to see first.

What problem this solves

Percentage discounts can feel abstract (“how much is 10% off?”). A flat amount is concrete: customers know exactly what they get before they redeem.

When to use

  • You want the simplest possible reward to launch the program.
  • Your basket sizes are predictable, so a fixed amount maps cleanly to value.
  • You want to discount only certain products or collections by a set amount.

Overview

  • Fixed amount off, in your store currency.
  • Fixed amount of points (one price) or Incremented points (customers choose how many points to spend).
  • Optional Coupon Prefix, Purchase type and product or collection targeting.
  • Optional minimum purchase amount or minimum quantity of items.
  • Optional combinations with other discounts and an optional expiry.

Before you start

Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see Install Yuko on Shopify.
The Yuko Theme App Embed is enabled in your active theme — see Theme App Embed.
Your loyalty program is enabled under Loyalty Program Status at Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs.
Your point labels are set in Loyalty Settings.
You have at least one Way to Earn active, so customers actually have points.

Setup guide

Add the reward

In your Shopify admin, go to Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs. In Ways to redeem, click Add another way and pick Amount Discount under Online Store.

Fill in Basic Details

  • Reward Name — customer-facing name. You can use [reward_value], [points_required] and [points_label], for example [reward_value] off for [points_required] [points_label].
  • Description — short copy shown with the reward.

Choose the Reward type

One price. Set Points Required and Discount Amount, for example 500 points for $5 off.
Customers choose how many points to spend, in steps.
  • Point Increments — points per discount unit (for example 100).
  • Discount per Increment — discount for each increment (for example $1).
  • Minimum points to redeem — the fewest points a customer can spend in one redemption.
  • Maximum points to redeem — the most points a customer can spend in one redemption. Leave it at 0 for no cap. If set, it must be at least the minimum.

Complete the Reward Configuration

  • Coupon Prefix — the start of every code this reward creates (up to 8 characters, default yuko). Codes look like YUKO-AB1-C2D.
  • Purchase type — One-time purchase, Subscription or Both (default). Subscription options only take effect if your store sells subscriptions; otherwise the discount applies to one-time purchases.
  • Applies to specific products or collections — leave unchecked to discount the whole order. When checked, choose Specific products or Specific collections and select at least one.
  • Only apply discount once per order — shown when you target specific products or collections, and checked by default. If unchecked, the amount is taken off each eligible item in the order.

Set Minimum Requirements (optional)

Under Minimum purchase requirements, choose No minimum requirements, Minimum purchase amount (enter a Minimum Subtotal) or Minimum quantity of items (enter a Minimum Quantity). Values must be at least 1.

Choose combinations (optional)

Under Combine with other discounts, tick any of Product discount, Order discount and Free shipping.

Set Expiry (optional)

Turn on Expiry, then set Expire after and a Period (Day, Week, Month or Year). The code stops working after that time. Expiry is available on select plans.

Enable and save

Turn on Status in the side panel and click Save.

How it works

  1. The customer opens a loyalty widget (for example the Cart Redeem widget or the customer account page) and redeems this reward. With incremented points, they also choose how many points to spend.
  2. Yuko deducts the points and creates a Shopify discount code for that customer. The code can be used once.
  3. The customer applies the code at checkout. Widgets that apply it to the cart do this for them.
  4. Yuko logs the redemption in the customer’s activity.

Decision guidance

  • Start with a fixed amount of points. It’s the easiest to explain.
  • Switch to incremented points when customers have large balances and want to spend more at once.
  • Set a minimum purchase so the discount isn’t used on a near-empty cart.
  • Leave combinations off unless you deliberately want stacking with sales.

Limitations

  • The code is a Shopify discount, so Shopify’s discount rules apply. If it doesn’t combine with another discount in the cart, Shopify applies only one.
  • The discount can’t take an order below zero.

Examples

  • Starter program: fixed, 500 pts = $5 off, Minimum Subtotal $25, expires after 30 days.
  • Flexible balance: incremented, 100 points per $1, minimum 500 points, maximum 5,000 points.
  • Collection promo: fixed, 300 pts = $3 off items in a “Basics” collection, applied once per order.

Best practices

Anchor your value clearly. “500 pts = $5” is the easiest mental model. Avoid awkward ratios.
Use a 30–60 day expiry on the issued code to encourage prompt use.
Use a recognisable Coupon Prefix (for example LOYAL) so you can spot loyalty codes in Shopify reports.
Combining with site-wide percentage promos can stack in ways customers don’t expect. Test combinations before launch.

Only if both discounts allow combining with an order discount in Shopify. Otherwise Shopify applies one.
No. The code is restricted to the customer who redeemed it and can be used once.
Shopify caps the discount at the eligible amount. The customer doesn’t get the difference back.
No. Leave it on Both. Without subscriptions, the discount applies to one-time purchases.
