# POS Amount Discount

> Let in-store customers redeem points for a fixed-amount discount at Shopify POS.

<Note>
  **Where to find this:** Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs → Ways to redeem → Add another way → **Shopify POS** → **POS Amount Discount**
</Note>

## Introduction

A POS Amount Discount lets customers spend their points in your physical store. The cashier redeems it from the Yuko tile in Shopify POS, and a fixed amount comes off the sale (for example, `500 points = $5 off`).

## What problem this solves

Customers who earn points online also shop in person. Without a POS reward, they can't spend their balance at the counter. This reward gives in-store customers the same earn-and-redeem loop.

## When to use

* You sell in person with Shopify POS.
* You want in-store customers to redeem points at the register.
* You want a simple, fixed value the cashier can explain quickly.

## Overview

* Redeemable **only at Shopify POS**. It doesn't appear in your online widgets, and online rewards can't be redeemed at POS.
* **Fixed amount of points** or **Incremented points**.
* Optional minimum purchase amount.
* Optional combinations with other discounts.
* No description, coupon prefix, product targeting or expiry settings.

## Before you start

<Check>Yuko app is installed on your Shopify store — see [Install Yuko on Shopify](/installation-and-setup/install-on-shopify).</Check>
<Check>The Yuko **Theme App Embed** is enabled in your active theme — see [Theme App Embed](/installation-and-setup/theme-app-embed).</Check>
<Check>Your loyalty program is enabled under **Loyalty Program Status** at **Shopify admin → Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs**.</Check>
<Check>Your point labels are set in [Loyalty Settings](/loyalty/program-settings).</Check>

<Check>The [Shopify POS integration](/integrations/shopify-pos) is connected. The **Shopify POS** section only appears in the reward picker after that.</Check>
<Check>The Yuko tile is added to the smart grid on your POS devices.</Check>

## Setup guide

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the reward">
    In your Shopify admin, go to **Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs**. In **Ways to redeem**, click **Add another way** and pick **POS Amount Discount** under **Shopify POS**.
  </Step>

        * **Discount per Increment** — discount for each increment.
        * **Minimum points to redeem** and **Maximum points to redeem** — the range allowed in one redemption. If you set a maximum, it must be at least the minimum.
      </Accordion>

  </Step>

  <Step title="Set Minimum Requirements (optional)">
    Choose **No minimum requirements** or **Minimum purchase amount** and enter a **Minimum Subtotal**. POS rewards don't support a minimum quantity of items.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose combinations (optional)">
    Under **Combine with other discounts**, tick any of **Product discount**, **Order discount** and **Free shipping**. All three are ticked by default.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable and save">
    Turn on **Status** in the side panel and click **Save**. The reward shows a **POS** badge in the rewards list.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## How it works

1. The cashier adds the customer and at least one product to the cart in Shopify POS.
2. They open the Yuko tile, go to the **Loyalty discounts** tab and tap **Redeem points**.
3. Under **Available rewards**, they tap **Redeem** on this reward. For incremented rewards, they first set the points to spend with the stepper.
4. After the confirmation, Yuko deducts the points, creates a single-use discount code for that customer and applies it to the cart.
5. If the cart is below the Minimum Subtotal, the reward stays disabled and POS shows how much more the customer needs to spend.

Codes a customer already redeemed but hasn't used are listed in the **Loyalty discounts** tab, so the cashier can apply them to the cart without spending more points.

### Decision guidance

* **Use the same value as your online Amount Discount** so customers get a consistent rate in both channels.
* **Use incremented points** if customers often have large balances to spend in store.

### Limitations

* Only redeemable at Shopify POS.
* Minimum requirement is subtotal only.
* If another discount is already in the cart, Shopify applies only the best discount unless both allow combinations. POS warns the cashier about this before applying.

## Examples

* *Boutique:* fixed, `500 pts = $5 off`, Minimum Subtotal \$30.
* *Flexible balance:* incremented, 100 points per \$1, minimum 500, maximum 5,000.

## Best practices

<Tip>**Train cashiers to add the customer first.** The tile can't show rewards until a customer is on the cart.</Tip>
<Tip>**Allow combinations** if you often run in-store promotions, so the loyalty discount isn't silently dropped.</Tip>
