# Sign Up

> Reward customers with points when they create an account on your Shopify store.

## Introduction

Give new customers a points bonus when they create an account. It turns a low-commitment action into the start of a loyalty relationship.

## What problem this solves

Guest checkout is convenient, but it leaves you no way to recognise the customer next time. A sign-up bonus gives shoppers a reason to create an account and something to spend on their next order.

## When to use

* You want to grow your registered customer base.
* You want to move guest shoppers toward creating accounts.
* You want a friendly first touch with the loyalty program.

## Overview

* One-time reward per customer.
* Awarded when a new customer account is created in Shopify.
* Optional points expiry and VIP tier multipliers.

## Before you start

## Setup guide

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the way to earn">
    In your Shopify admin, go to **Apps → Yuko Loyalty → Loyalty → Programs**. In **Ways to earn**, click **Add another way** and pick **Sign Up**.

  <Step title="Fill in Basic Details">
    * **Campaign Name** — shown to customers on the storefront. You can use `[earn_value]` and `[points_label]`, for example `Earn [earn_value] [points_label]`.
    * **Description** — short copy shown with the way to earn.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the points">
    Enter **Points to earn on signup** (a whole number, at least 1).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set Expiry (optional)">
    Turn on **Expiry**, then set **Expire after** and a **Period** (Day, Week, Month or Year). Expiry is available on select plans.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the side panel">
    * **Status** — on by default.
    * **Icon** — **Default**, or **Custom** to upload your own (JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP, under 1 MB).
    * **Tiers** — turn on to apply VIP tier multipliers to this way to earn.

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**.

## How it works

* Yuko awards the points when Shopify creates a new customer account for your store.
* Each customer earns the Sign Up reward once.
* Excluded customers don't earn.

With **Tiers** on and [VIP tiers](/vip-tiers/overview) enabled, customers in a tier earn the tier's multiplier for this way to earn, plus any bonus points the tier sets for it. The extra points appear as a separate tier bonus entry.

### Decision guidance

* **Pair with an expiry** to encourage a first redemption while interest is high.
* **Calibrate the bonus** so it covers a meaningful part of your cheapest reward (for example half of it).

### Limitations

* One reward per customer.
* Only new Shopify customer accounts trigger it. Customers who existed before you enabled Sign Up don't earn it.
* You can have one Sign Up way to earn.

## Examples

* A skincare brand awards 200 points on sign-up, expiring in 30 days, where 500 points = \$5 off.
* A wellness store awards 100 points on sign-up with no expiry to keep the program simple.

## Best practices

<Tip>**Mention the bonus on your sign-up form.** Customers won't take an action they don't know about.</Tip>
<Tip>**Combine with Subscribe to Newsletter** so customers who sign up and opt in earn twice.</Tip>
